We are living on this planet, it is our home so it is important to keep it clean, not just for the us but everything living on this planet. We can already see now that this over creation of waste is already causing both to humans and the environment. Some people even have to live with this trash. This website is dedicated to doing just that.
This is a very simple but important tip. One of the most common type of trash were plastic single uses items. By getting your own reusable items this allows you to say no to plastic straws and cutlery, already reducing a large amount of waste.
Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle. These are the 5Rs. You should first try and refuse making the waste. If you are unable to do that then try and reduce the amount that you are using. After finishing, try and reuse the product, either by repurposing it or just reusing it again. Finally, if unable to do any of the above or have reused/repurposed it until the point that it cannot be used again you should try and recycle it.
This applies to food mainly, just try and cook/buy the amount that you think you can eat. This way if you did't have enough you could just make/buy more instead of just having too much.
This sounds contradictory but when you buy in bulk it tends to mean less packaging. It will not only save you money, it will also reduce the packaging used. But even then make sure what you buy is what you need.
This one not everyone can do this, but if you can try to. Composting is basically making the waste go back to nature and making it into something useful. This is a really effective way to reduce your food waste, as many foods can be composted.
This is a really environmental friendly method to purchase your goods. This will also give a bit more insurance over the food that you are buying and this reduces the need for the transport carbon emissions. They also tend to have less packaging.
Just by being more conscious, you will be able to do some of these tips subconsciously happen. With this you will be able to reduce your waste.
Making things yourself tends to be save waste, as you can choose to reuse/repurpose things. This may sound like a repeat of the 2nd tip but I just really wanted to point this one out. I personally really like this tip as it allows for your creativity to go everywhere.
Although this doesn't seem like reducing your waste yourself. But when you are outside with friends and you help them reduce their waste, this will make a difference. So try and keep this in mind.
I didn't want to force any of these habits/tips on you. I felt that if I generalised it would allow you to have room for creativity. I think that if you thought of this idea, you are more likely to follow it and keep it as a permanent action you do instead of just a one off.
But generally speaking, the less waste you create, the more you save! For example, if you were to not over consume, you will already save a lot of money. A lot of things we don't actually "need". But it is still ok to get something that you want. Let's just be more considerate and conscious of our waste production and try to reduce that. One of the most important points that I want to enforce is that you must just be more aware of this. As soon as this happens the rest should easily follow. Let's do a simple calculation. Let's take that it cost you $0.10 for 1 plastic bag every-time you go and buy something. Now if you decide to reuse this plastic bag, could be saving 10¢ every-time you reuse this plastic bag. That would be $10 for 100 times, $100 for 1,000 and so on. If you do this with other products as well you will definitely save quite a bit of money.
