Kohls Discover Event in West Valley, UT

• During my time at the Kohls event in West Valley, I educated children from low resource communities on how they can improve their oral habits at home to help prevent decay from starting. I demonstrated proper brushing and flossing techniques. I saw children with recurrent decay and aching teeth, it was impactful to see the state of their mouths. This experience makes me consider public health dental hygiene post graduation.

Special Olympics in Herriman, UT

• Screened special needs patients alongside dental students at the special olympics sports event. Applied fluoride varnish and gave referrals for treatment as needed.

Rose Park Elementary in Salt Lake City, UT

• Informed people at Rose Park elementary about the dental hygiene services we were providing for free throughout the semester thanks to a grant from Intermountain Health Care. People had many questions and were even more interested once we explained that they could come at no cost. 

Migrant Farm Field Farms in Payson, UT

• Traveled to Payson with one of my professors and another classmate to place fluoride varnish in the migrant farm fields. This event allowed me to understand the need for more public health hygienists as there were many workers without access to care.
