Wearing of the Department Issued Badge

On-Duty, Uniformed Employees. Uniformed employees shall wear their official Department-issued badge on the outermost garment of their uniform. However officers in a Department-approved specialised uniform, (e.g., bike detail) may wear a facsimile badge.

On-Duty, Plainclothes Deputies. On-duty, plainclothes deputies shall wear their official Department-issued badge and ID card so it is readily accessible for presentation to members of the public.


WHO SHALL WEAR UNIFORM. All employees regardless of rank shall wear the prescribed uniform and personal equipment during their tours of duty.

EXEMPTIONS TO WEARING UNIFORMS. The following officers are exempted from wearing the prescribed uniforms - Sheriff; Executive Staff; Command staff; and, Undercover and plainclothes assignment deputies.

Accessories

BASEBALL CAP. May optionally be worn with Class B/C uniforms. May be worn by deputies assigned to Beach Patrol. May be worn by deputies while wearing Utility Uniform. It shall be green in color and display either "SHERIFF" in gold text, or appropriate department insignia.

BEANIE. May optionally be worn during inclement weather. The beanie shall be black in colour. 

BICYCLE HELMET. Shall be worn by deputies assigned to Bicycle Teams. Shall be black in colour.

BODYCAM. Bodycams shall be worn by Deputies; the newer Coil Body 3 is to be used. 

Exemptions: Wearing of the bodycam is not required: 

CAMPAIGN HAT. This hat shall only be worn on formal occasions and not in the field.

COWBOY HAT. Non-probationary deputies may choose to wear a plain, sand colored cowboy hat with their uniform. Shall not be worn during formal events. The Sheriff may choose to wear a cowboy hat equipped with a badge.

DIVISION PINS. Officers may choose to wear the relevant Division/Bureau pin which matches the assignment that Deputy is currently on-duty as. 

Example: If on-duty as 3D or 43Q, the EOB pin may be used, but could not be used if on-duty as 18L.

Note: Shall only be worn with standard uniform shirts, i.e. Class A/B/C or utilities.

EXTERNAL ARMOUR. Deputies shall not patrol while wearing external armour. During situations where extra protection is needed, deputies may put on external armour. Shall be green in colour, and must display "LSSD" or "SHERIFF."

EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST (STAB VEST). Deputies may choose to wear external carrier vests with the Duty Uniform or Utility Uniform. External carrier vests shall be olive-green in colour, and must display "SHERIFF" as well as the LSSD badge. 

FABRIC DUTY BELT. Deputies may elect to wear a fabric belt in lieu of their issued leather basketweave belt at their own discretion. 

GLOVES. Black leather or knitted gloves may be worn for inclement weather. Gloves in solid, muted colors may be worn in situations where extra protection is required. Nitrile gloves may be worn when providing first aid, or collecting evidence. 

HELMETS. Deputies may carry a ballistic helmet in their patrol vehicle for situations which require extra ballistic protection. Deputies may wear riot helmets during riots/major public order situations. Ballistic helmets shall be green in colour. 

HOLSTER. Unless specified, all deputies shall wear their black holster on their belt. 

JACKETS. Deputies may choose to wear a department-issued jacket during inclement weather, or during cold periods of time. 

RAIN CLOTHING. Rain clothing shall be worn during such times as deputies may be exposed to inclement weather. It shall consist of the following: Hood and; Coat or cape. 

RIBBON RACK. Only Command may authorize the utilization of ribbon racks.

SHOULDER / CHEST MIC. Deputies may choose to wear a shoulder or chest mic for their radio. 

SWEATER. Deputies may optionally wear a woolen sweater. It shall be green in color and bear a facsimile LSSD badge.

TASER. If a deputy chooses to utilise a taser, they shall use a black or yellow taser.

Dropleg Holster: Officers may use the dropleg taser holster. This may be used with any uniform.

TRAFFIC VEST. Deputies shall wear reflective safety vests while working in the roadway.  However, a vest is not required when a deputy conducts a traffic stop. 

TRAPPER (AVIATOR) HAT. May optionally be worn alongside the Field Uniform and Utility Uniform during particularly cold weather. Shall be green in colour, and must display the LSSD badge.

TURTLENECK. Deputies may choose to wear a department-issued turtleneck under their duty shirt during inclement weather. It shall be brown, and bare the text "SHERIFF." 

WINDBREAKER. Detectives and other plainclothes assignments may choose to wear a marked windbreaker to identify themselves as a member of the department. It shall be green in color, bear the department patches, embroidered badge, and the text "LOS SANTOS COUNTY SHERIFF".

ZIPTIES. During major public order situations, deputies may choose to wear extra ziptie cuffs on their belt. 

UNIFORM TYPES

Class A Uniform

Shall be worn by any Deputy Sheriff Trainee.

Shall be worn by any deputy attending a formal event.

May be worn by deputies conducting field activities.


SHIRT. Long sleeve shirt to be worn with the tie. Shall be worn with the metal badge and name plate.

PANTS. Standard duty pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Black Basket Weave leather belt, with gold buckle and gold pouch buttons.

Class B / C (Duty) Uniform

May be worn by deputies conducting field activities.


SHIRT. Long sleeve or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Shall be worn with the metal badge and name plate.

PANTS. Standard slack-style pants, OR straight cargo-style pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Black Basket Weave belt, with gold buckle and gold pouch buttons.

Note: Deputies may optionally wear the Nylon belt, or a Basket Weave belt with a plastic buckle and gold pouch buttons. 

Bicycle Uniform

Shall be worn by deputies assigned to Bicycle Teams.


SHIRT. White Polo shirt, must have a facsimile badge and the text "SHERIFF" both on the front right-breast pocket, and the rear of the polo shirt.

PANTS. BDU Pants, or Shorts, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black sneakers.

HELMET. All deputies shall wear a bicycle helmet when riding a bicycle. It shall be black in color.

BELT. Black Basket Weave leather belt, with gold buckle and gold pouch buttons.

Note: Deputies may optionally wear the Nylon belt, or a Basket Weave belt with a plastic buckle. 

Beach Patrol Uniform

Shall be worn by deputies assigned to Beach Patrol.


SHIRT. Forest green Polo shirt, must have a facsimile badge and the text "SHERIFF" both on the front right-breast pocket, and the rear of the polo shirt.

PANTS. BDU Pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Black Basket Weave leather belt, with gold buckle and gold pouch buttons.

Note: Deputies may optionally wear the Nylon belt, or a Basket Weave belt with a plastic buckle and gold pouch buttons. 

Harbor Patrol Uniform

Shall be worn by any deputy assigned to Harbor Patrol.


SHIRT. White Polo shirt, must have a facsimile badge and the text "SHERIFF" both on the front right-breast pocket, and the rear of the polo shirt.

PANTS. BDU pants, olive green in colour. May optionally be bloused (tucked into boots).

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Nylon belt.

PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD). Deputies assigned to Harbor Patrol must wear a PFD (also known as a life jacket) when aboard a watercraft at all times. Shall be olive green in colour, with silver reflective stripes, with facsimile badge and the text "SHERIFF."

Utility Uniform

On-duty policing personnel must attain permission from a duty supervisor to be authorised to use the utility uniform for the duration of their tour of duty, unless permitted otherwise by a standalone order, advisory, or division guideline. The utility uniform shall be the standard uniform used by Prisoner Transport and Detention personnel. The utility uniform may be optionally worn by deputies assigned to LST detail.

Note: May be worn during a Tac Alert, or special event, without supervisor permission.


SHIRT. Long or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Shall be worn with a sewn badge and sewn name patch.

PANTS. BDU pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Black Basket Weave leather belt, with gold buckle and gold pouch buttons.

Note: Deputies may optionally wear the Nylon belt, or a Basket Weave belt with a plastic buckle and gold pouch buttons. 

EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST. May be worn.

Motor Unit Uniform

Shall be worn by all motor unit deputies.


SHIRT. Class A, B, or C style shirt may be worn.

PANTS. Olive in color motor unit pants with a yellow stripe shall be bloused and worn with knee-high boots.

HELMET. All motor unit deputies shall wear the department-issued motor helmet.

GLOVES. Deputies shall wear black leather gloves.

K-9 Uniform

On-duty K9 Unit personnel shall wear the Utility uniform.


SHIRT. Long or short sleeved tan shirt, open collar, with embroidered facsimile badge and green name tape.

PANTS. Olive green BDU trousers, may be bloused.

FOOTWEAR. Black in colour boots.

BELT. Black Basket Weave leather belt, with gold buckle and gold pouch buttons.

Note: Deputies may optionally wear the Nylon belt, or a Basket Weave belt with a plastic buckle and gold pouch buttons. 

HOLSTER. Deputies may opt to wear a thigh holster in lieu of the standard duty holster.

EXTERNAL ARMOUR / VESTS. During high risk situations, K9 deputies may opt to wear a green plate carrier. It shall bear a patch with the Sheriff star on the front left hand side and 'SHERIFF K9' on the front right hand side, as well as the back side.

Dirt Bike Uniform

Shall be worn by deputies assigned to the Dirt Bike team.


VERSION 1

SHIRT. Green long sleeve dirt bike shirt bearing department insignia.

PANTS. Green dirtbike pants with knee and shin protection.

FOOTWEAR. Black motorcycle boots.

EXTERNAL VEST. Deputies assigned to the Dirt Bike team shall wear the external vest. It shall be green in colour and must display "SHERIFF" and "LSSD"

OFFROAD HELMET. Black offroad style helmet with and chin protection no visor shall be worn. It must display "SHERIFF" and it must be paired with protective goggles with clear or tinted lenses.

GLOVES. Gloves in solid, muted colors shall be worn when operating an offroad motorcycle, or an all terrain vehicle.


VERSION 2

SHIRT. Long or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Shall be worn with a sewn badge and sewn name patch.

PANTS. BDU pants, forest green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black motorcycle boots.

EXTERNAL VEST. Deputies assigned to the Dirt Bike team shall wear the external vest. It shall be green in colour and must display "SHERIFF" and "LSSD"

OFFROAD HELMET. Black offroad style helmet with and chin protection no visor shall be worn. It must display "SHERIFF" and it must be paired with protective goggles with clear or tinted lenses.

GLOVES. Gloves in solid, muted colors shall be worn when operating an offroad motorcycle, or an all terrain vehicle.


VERSION 3

SHIRT. Green Polo shirt, must have a facsimile badge and the text "SHERIFF" both on the front right-breast pocket, and the rear of the polo shirt.

PANTS. Green dirtbike pants with knee and shin protection.

FOOTWEAR. Black motorcycle boots.

EXTERNAL VEST. Deputies assigned to the Dirt Bike team shall wear the external vest. It shall be green in colour and must display "SHERIFF" and "LSSD"

Special Enforcement Bureau Uniform

Utility Uniform shall be worn by deputies assigned to Special Enforcement Bureau when conducting standard field activities.

During tactical operations, a tactical uniform shall be worn instead.


SHIRT. Green long sleeve combat shirt, bearing the subdued LSSD patch.

PANTS. Green tactical pants.

BODY ARMOR. Similarly colored external armor, which displays "SHERIFF" or "LSSD".

HELMET. Similarly colored ballistic helmet.

Aero Bureau Uniform

Shall be worn by any deputy assigned to the Aero Bureau when operating an aircraft. 


SUIT. Shall be green in color and bear the LSSD patches, Aero Bureau emblem and a badge.

GLOVES. Pilots may wear nomex flight gloves

HELMET. All pilots shall wear the department-issued pilot helmet when airborne. It shall be white and bear LSSD markings.

BELT. Pilots shall wear a plain black nylon belt with a plastic buckle.

Search and Rescue Tech Uniform

Shall be worn by deputies conducting Search and Rescue activities. 


SHIRT. Tan or green utility shirt. It shall bear the embroidered badge and name tape, LSSD patch and Search and Rescue patch. When not wearing an upper torso harness, the utility shirt may be swapped for a combat shirt equipped with the same patches as the utlity shirt.

PANTS. Green BDU pants, may be bloused.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Deputies shall wear their duty belt as prescribed, unless it would interfere with other equipment, such as abseiling gear or a harness.

HELMET. When conducting duties where a risk of head injury exists, deputies shall wear a bump helmet. It shall either be orange in color and bear "SEARCH AND RESCUE" lettering together with a LSSD badge, OR red in color and bear "SEARCH AND RESCUE" lettering together with Mountain Rescue logo, OR orange and plain.

HOLSTER. A drop leg holster may be used.

OTHER EQUIPMENT. Search and Rescue Technicians may choose to equip themselves with other equipment which would aid them in successful accomplishment of their duties when wearing the Search and Rescue Technician Uniform. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to: equipment chest rig, abseiling gear or a rapelling harness.

Search and Rescue Coveralls

Shall be worn by deputies conducting Search and Rescue activities. 


SHIRT. Green coverall. It shall bear the embroidered badge, LSSD patch and Search and Rescue patch. 

PANTS. Green coverall.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Deputies shall wear their duty belt as prescribed, unless it would interfere with other equipment, such as abseiling gear or a harness.

HELMET. When conducting duties where a risk of head injury exists, deputies shall wear a bump helmet.
