My name is Leonard Zhong. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. My primary concentration area is in Computer-Aided Design and Engineering.
I have applied my knowledge in mechanical engineering through a range of projects, internship experience, and research, with a focus on product design, development, and testing. Besides being a Certified SolidWorks Professional, I have used SolidWorks to create drawings, parts, and assemblies in various school projects and assignments such as for a brake pedal arm and a miniature car brace. I have been involved in the design process from a product’s initial sketches to its fabrication for both the brake pedal arm and an assistive grabber device. For both group projects, we created designs in SolidWorks, conducted static structural analysis in ANSYS Workbench, and fabricated the prototypes. Finally, I have had hands-on experience in a machine shop during the brake pedal arm project. In the machine shop, I used machines such as a vertical bandsaw, Bridgeport milling machine, and a drill press to construct the prototype.
For engineering experience, I am an Engineer-In-Training who has worked as a mechanical engineering intern at Yanfeng Adient Seating where I worked alongside other engineers in the repairs department of the automobile seating production line. I also worked as a researcher alongside my professor at UMass Amherst to develop a substrate for improved In Vitro Fertilization embryo culture. This website exhibits some of the mechanical design projects and other projects I have done.
