I am a full professor at the São Paulo School of Economics, Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV EESP). I joined FGV in 2012 after completing my PhD in Economic History at the London School of Economics (LSE).
My research focuses on the political economy of state finance, with an emphasis on Latin America at the turn of the twentieth century. I am also currently launching a book series on recent Brazilian economic and political history.
I am a Research Fellow at the Geneva Graduate Institute, supported by grants from FAPESP and the SNSF. Previously, I was a Visiting Researcher at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) and a Newton Fellow at UCL, where I worked on a project funded by the British Academy.
My work has been published by FGV Press and Palgrave Macmillan, as well as in peer-reviewed journals such as Explorations in Economic History, The Journal of Economic History, Economic History Review, World Economy, and Comparative Politics.
I am also an active contributor to public debate in Brazil, frequently writing for Folha de S. Paulo, Valor Econômico, O Estado de S. Paulo, and O Globo, and appearing as a guest on podcasts such as Foro de Teresina, A Hora, and Ilustríssima Conversa.
