I'm a Senior Lecturer (Professor Titular) at the São Paulo School of Economics, Fundação Getulio Vargas (EESP FGV). I joined FGV in 2012, following the completion of my PhD in Economic History at the London School of Economics.
I research the political economy of state finance, especially in Latin America at the turn of the twentieth century. I am also launching a series of books on recent Brazilian economic and political history.
I am a Research Fellow at the Geneva Graduate Institute, financed by FAPESP and SNSF. I was a visiting Researcher at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) and a Newton Fellow at UCL, where I worked on a project financed by the British Academy.
I have published books with FGV and Palgrave Macmillan, and peer-reviewed articles in Explorations in Economic History, The Journal of Economic History, Economic History Review, World Economy, Journal of Latin American Studies, Comparative Politics, Capitalism, Enterprise and Society, and Revista de Economia Contemporânea.
I actively contribute to the Brazilian media, having written articles for Folha de S. Paulo, Valor Econômico, Estado de S. Paulo, and O Globo, and being interviewed in the podcasts Foro de Teresina, A Hora, and Ilustríssima Conversa.
