My primary area is geometric group theory. I also know a little bit about knot theory. I have taught 30 different courses at JMU. I started our Research Experiences for Undergraduates program and supervised it for 12 years. I am chair of our Curriculum and Instruction Committee, which also gives me a seat on the College Curriculum and Instruction Committee. I'm also a member of the College Council.
If you are looking to teach a course that develops all the algebraic properties of the reals from the Peano Axioms, I've got the free book for you: An Axiomatic Construction of the Real Number System. There is another about Algebraic Concepts for Future Middle School Teachers.
Outside of work, I am a member of Harrisonburg's Parks and Recreation Commission, a bicycle commuter, almost a musician, a fitness semi-nut, a decent golfer, a husband and a father of two.
At various times, I have lived in IL, NY, CA, MA, MI, PA, and VA.
