The purpose of this project is not to completely eliminate the amount of car accidents that involve phone usage, nor to eliminate phone usage while driving. The main goal of this project is to limit the visual, manual, and cognitive distractions caused by phone usage, which ultimately cause teens to get involved in car crashes.
Problem Statement
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2010-2019, over 3,100 people were killed and about 424,000 were injured in crashes involving a distracted teen driver ages 15-20 years old in the United States, and 40% of those distractions were directly linked to phone usage.
