Lens does not require you to sign up or log in. We do not collect your name, email address, or payment details, and we do not run our own servers that store your data. There is no account and no advertising.
However, because Lens helps you search and translate, some features need to send the image or text you choose to trusted third‑party services to return a result. This policy explains exactly what is sent, and when.
For transparency, and to match our App Store privacy label, here is everything the app collects and why. None of it is linked to your identity, and none of it is used to track you across other apps or websites.
Photos you choose to search — uploaded temporarily to run a reverse image search, then auto‑deleted (typically within 24 hours). (App functionality)
Usage data — anonymous events about how features are used, so we can improve the app. (Analytics)
Diagnostics — crash reports, performance data, and basic device / OS information, to fix bugs and stability issues. (App functionality)
Approximate location — a coarse location derived from your IP address by our analytics provider. (Analytics)
A device / app‑instance identifier — a random identifier used by analytics and crash reporting. It is not your Apple ID and not a permanent hardware ID. (Analytics)
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, payment details, browsing history, or your search history (your search history stays on your device).
When you choose to search a photo across the web, the app uploads that single image to a third‑party temporary image‑hosting service to create a temporary link. That link is then opened in your browser on a third‑party web search engine so it can find visually similar results.
The uploaded image is stored only temporarily and is set to be deleted automatically (typically within 24 hours).
We do not keep a copy of your photo on any server we control.
Only images you explicitly choose to search are uploaded. Nothing is uploaded in the background.
Identifying objects, extracting text from a photo (OCR), and scanning QR codes / barcodes are processed entirely on your device using Apple's built‑in frameworks. These images are not uploaded by the app.
When you choose to translate text, the text is sent to a third‑party translation service to return the translation. Only the text you choose to translate is sent.
The app uses your camera and photo library only to capture or select the images you choose to search, identify, scan, or translate. Images are not uploaded except for the Reverse Image Search feature described above.
A history of your searches (with small thumbnails) is stored locally on your device only so you can return to past results. It is never sent to us. You can clear it any time from Settings, and deleting the app removes it.
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to detect crashes, so we can fix problems and improve the app. These tools may collect anonymous usage events, a device / app‑instance identifier, an approximate (coarse) location derived from your IP address, and crash and diagnostic information. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. It is processed by Google under its own privacy policy.

Some features rely on third parties, and the data they receive is governed by their own privacy policies:
Apple — handles all subscriptions and payments (we never see your payment details).
Google Firebase — provides app analytics and crash reporting, and temporarily hosts the image you search (before it is auto‑deleted).
A third‑party web search provider — receives the temporary image link when you run a reverse image search, and processes the search.
A third‑party translation service — receives text you choose to translate.
Temporary image hosts — may briefly hold the image used for a reverse search before it is auto‑deleted.
We recommend reviewing Apple's and Google's privacy policies for how they handle data they receive.
Your search history, settings, and saved thumbnails are stored locally on your device. We have no access to this data. Deleting the app permanently removes it.
Lens is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
