ABOUT THE TEACHER

I grew up in Upstate New York (The Adirondack Mountains), and was part of a family of educators.  I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher.  I can't think of anything more exciting than seeing the joy on a child's face when mastering something new or becoming inspired to rise to the challenge.

I attended the State University of New York, College at Brockport, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Certification in Elementary Education.  I also obtained my Master's in Elementary Education with a Specialization in Literacy.  I began my teaching career in Western New York where I taught both Kindergarten and First Grade for several years.  I then relocated to Long Island, where I have been teaching since 2007.  As a life-long learner, I have continued my education and have received my Gifted Education Extension, a certification for Students with Disabilities, and a Certificate in Educational Computing.  I now have had experience teaching Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade,Third Grade, Gifted Education (grades 3-6), and High School Science Research.

More recently, I have been selected to be part of the New York State Master Teacher Program. Through this program I have been provided the opportunity to further my education as I collaborate with teachers all across New York State.

While raising my son that has been diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia, I decided to further my studies of the Science of Reading in pursuit of strategies and techniques that can help me reach all the learners within my classroom. I am now certified as an Associate Level Dyslexia Practitioner with the Orton Gillingham Academy.

My hobbies include reading, hiking, camping, and living a life of exploration!
