Recommended Spreads
There are various spreads (layouts) and the number of cards used can vary in Lenormand card reading. While it is possible to do single-card readings, the true essence of Lenormand card reading lies in using multiple cards in a spread. Here, I will introduce some recommended spreads that are beginner-friendly.
Once you become more comfortable with readings, you can increase the number of cards and try different spreads. This will deepen your interpretations and allow you to fully experience the fascination of Lenormand card reading.
Readings are done in the flow of time from left to right.
The card placed furthest to the left represents the starting point of the past, while the card placed furthest to the right represents the future (outcome).
There are Key Cards that represent the person or symbolic matters being read.
The Key Card refers to the card that symbolizes the question content. It can be a person card like "Gentleman" or "Lady" representing oneself or the other person, or it can be a card related to the theme of the reading (e.g., "Heart" for love, "Anchor" for work, "Dog" for friendships). The Key Card is used to represent the essence of the question.
The Key Card is read in conjunction with its position in the spread, the meanings brought by the surrounding cards, and the interpretations associated with each position in the spread.
The most important thing is the initial impression you get from the card you first see. Without overthinking it, read and interpret it based on your intuition.
Three-Card Spread is a basic spread where three cards are drawn. Similar to the two-card spread, it involves interpreting the meanings of the combinations formed by the cards. Additionally, with the inclusion of the time axis of past, present, and future, it allows us to predict how things will unfold. It is suitable for gaining insights into someone's feelings or making forecasts about the future.
First, thoroughly shuffle the cards.
Draw one card at a time and arrange them from left to right, forming a line of three cards.
【Left】Past/Cause - Things to ponder, exploring the issues.
【Middle】Present Situation - Key points of the problem, actions to take.
【Right】Future - Outcome, resolution methods.
These three cards are not independent, but rather influence each other. In basic reading, it is helpful to interpret the overall flow as "Card ① and Card ② leading to Card ③." Furthermore, you can delve deeper into the reading by examining the combinations of Card ① and Card ②, as well as Card ② and Card ③.
Key Card Spread
This is a spread that uses a Key Card, which symbolizes the question or theme at hand, along with a total of four cards. It is beneficial in providing clarity to the question and focusing on a specific topic, such as love, work, or relationships. This spread is recommended when the theme of the question is already narrowed down.
Select a Key Card and place it facing up.
(Key Card Example) For example, if you want to explore your own love life, you can use a card representing yourself, such as the "Lady" card if you are a woman. If you want to understand someone else's feelings or situation, you can use the "Man" card. For themes like love (represented by the Heart card), work (represented by the Fox card), or financial luck (represented by the Fish card), you can choose specific cards that symbolize those aspects.
Thoroughly shuffle the remaining 35 cards with their faces down, and intuitively select three cards. Place them in a row from left to right.
【Left】Past/Cause - Things to consider, exploring the problem.
【Center】Present Situation - Key points of the problem, actions to take.
【Right】Future - Outcome, resolution methods.
These three cards are not independent but rather influence each other. In a basic reading, it is helpful to interpret the overall flow as "Card ① and Card ② lead to Card ③" based on the imagery. Furthermore, you can delve deeper by combining Card ①and Card ②, as well as Card ② and Card ③, for combination readings.
This spread is ideal for practicing and preparing for the Grand Tableau, also known as the "Big Picture" spread, where all 36 cards are laid out and read. The Nine Card Spread serves as a preliminary exercise to familiarize yourself with interpreting card combinations.
In this spread, the Key Card is placed in the center, surrounded by a 3x3 grid of cards. The left side represents the past, while the right side represents the future. The relationship between the cards above and below indicates the influence or pressure exerted by the upper cards on the lower ones.
If the Key Card represents a person, you can interpret their thoughts, actions, emotional state, and changing circumstances based on the surrounding cards.
Choose a Key Card and place it face up in the center.
Shuffle the remaining 35 cards well, keeping them face down. Intuitively select 8 cards from the shuffled deck.
Shuffle the chosen 8 cards once more and lay them out in the order of their numbers.
Shuffle the chosen 8 cards once more and lay them out in the order of their numbers.

【B】In the middle row, it represents the current situation and the fluctuations in emotions and mental states.
【C】In the bottom row, it represents the unseen true intentions, to put it directly, the genuine thoughts.
Let's interpret the cards in the following way:
