I love my friends, and I love to take pictures of my friends. This photo, taken recently, from graduation this year. I met the friends on either end of the picture by pure chance, (my favorite way to meet people) as the gym on campus was abnormally closed. Me and Arleny were starting one of our first Hockey Club (field hockey) sessions, and we saw two guys out of luck and invited them to join. The start of a new friendships that led to even more friendships. These three made university so fun and I am so proud of Phili and Hizkyas for all their hard work and dedication. (First hockey club repeating members!)
I think I enjoy taking candids or 'imperfect' photos because it emulates what you feel in the moment. Because this photo is exactly how I view them, shining, compassionate, bright and full of love!
And I love that I know that even though we may go long periods without seeing each other, we will always come back together.
I LOVE MY FRIENDS!!!

Everytime I see this photo, it makes me laugh a little.
We (me, Arleny, and Joshua) were at Ocean Park, and after a full and very long day of walking around in the burning heat, we wanted to watch the sunset somewhere nice. On the top of the mountain, we thought there was no better spot than a ferris wheel to enjoy the relaxing shift to night.
It was NOT relaxing. For me.
For some reason, perhaps maybe because it was the creakiest, rustiest, ferris wheel on the planet, I was terrified. Arleny and Joshua were completely fine, but I held on for dear life on the center pole. From the ground, you couldn't tell just how high up we already were, but when we lifted off the ground, you could see everything.
I remember being terrified, but I also remember taking as many pictures as possible, capturing everything regardless.
Side Note: We went on the gondola on the way back, which was also really high up, and it had no effect on me LOL.

My mother and I headed into the city to go to the Met. She really wanted to see the Caspar David Friedrich exhibit, which would end while she was in Germany. So off to the Met we were! She was super agitated, we needed to get there or she would miss it! In the moments before we made it into the Met, the world seemed to rush around us. As if the entire bustling city was trying to distract us from our mission. Once we finally made it to the Met, even then, we couldn't rest. Everything was completely defined by how we could make it to the exhibit.
When we stepped foot into the dark and winding corridor that held Caspar David Friedrich's paintings, sketches, and journals, we didn't stop. Occasionally I find difficulty in looking at art, especially in museums. It comes across as slightly preformative, at least for me. My mind races, and thinking of a single thing for a prolonged time is difficult for me. Looking at art follows this path as well, where I absorb it and the feel disingenuous by standing around any longer than my brain can focus on it.
But when we exited the Met, we took a calm path through Central Park. That was when my mind could rest. Nature, and these quieter moments, are the pieces of art I could stare at for however long I can stand still. When I create my own pieces, (through photography) I try to find different angles and directions. And when I am somewhere, in person, I travel to different places just through shifts in perspective. Photography has always had a certain depth that feels so real, like I could step through the frame and really be there. I find it a lot easier to get lost in.

This photo was taken while we went on a tour of Ninh Binh in Vietnam. It was super touristy, but sometimes you need to do something really touristy.
Part of the tour was these boat rides through cave and around mountains, until you arrived at isolated buildings: temples, pagodas, etc. It was absolutely gorgeous and so interesting to find buildings tucked in the tiniest of pieces of land. We hadn't originally planned on going on such a tour, but we met this girl through the Hostelworld app and she was looking for people to go on a day trip with. Arleny and I were IN.
I love this photo because of how green it is, and how representative it is of tourism. With the orange of people's life vests reflecting on the water. I find that although it effects the outcome of the photo(and the area), it doesn't negatively impact the overall. It is still and respectful and appreciative of the beauty that surrounds it.

There is no better dog than Georgie Finnamore.
(I am also the most biased person in the entire world.)
Spring began the day I took this picture. I had enlisted two of my friends, Elisha and Enzo to come picnicking with me in the park. Thinking that if we acted as if it were spring, the weather (which was breaking into the double digits) would finally decide, "hey, it's time."
And in a way it did! I ended up a teeny bit sunburnt on my face, digging out aloe after-sun, it felt like summer had arrived.
The entire time we ate, Georgia inquisitively sniffed toward our food, totally nonchalant. She almost took a chunk of our pizza, but ended up content with just sniffing the to-go bags and the fragrance of the food that flowed through the air.
I captured this picture of her, with the (almost) spring sun laying on her back, and it felt like magic. I hope she will always remember that day.

My last full day in Bremen was warm. Not so much that you had to jump in a pool to cool off, but warm enough that I broke a sweat in my sweater. I met up for breakfast with a friend, we ate and chatted and decided how best to spend our day (post-graduation). We continued our day on a journey, to find a charger for my watch before I began my journey to Berlin to fly to Vietnam.
But the antics quickly took over. Like wild geese we ran around Bremen, stopping everywhere and anywhere that might possibly have a charger I could purchase. SATURN, kiosks, even MEDIAMARKT! And the entire time we ran around, we weren't stressed. We were enjoying the journey, taking pause in all the special moments before we parted. I contemplated giving up on the charger and instead grabbing onto a piece of fruit and calling it a day. In the end, we did find me a charger. I think I used it once.
But because of our commitment, I will never forget the moment I took this picture. How standing there snapping this picture is etched into my mind. We were simply enjoying our remaining time, how it didn't matter if we failed because we did it together.

We (me, Arleny, and Joshua) were visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace. It was warm, cloudy, and slightly thunderous. We explored the grounds, implanting ourselves in history and wondering how lively it must have been in the past. I could imagine the people of the palace in earlier eras and was left wondering, if pictures existed like they did now, would they pose the same?
Probablyyy not, but there is often so much of the past that we "dull"-ify, washing the personalities out of history. But in truth, love and emotion are what shape history. I took this picture because I love my friends. And there is a certain kind of affection in standing oddly to take the best possible pictures of your friends, especially if the ground is dusty.
This picture only came to be through love. Perhaps, like us visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace, people of the future will think back and ask "who are these people? how did they live?".
I hope they'll appreciate that this photo exists in the first place because of love and friendship.

Arriving in Hanoi from Saigon was unlike anything else. On our first day we took a walk from our hostel to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Although dripping with sweat and exhaustion, we walked and walked and walked and walked.
As we began to circle the lake, we spotted these two friends. They'd walked from the nearby Crocs store with highlighter green bags. It was clear they were too excited to wait, so they wore their matching shoes as they strolled. In Hanoi, where we were missing the love and care we'd felt from our (newly adoptive) family in Saigon, I was reminded that love exists wherever people are.
I'm not sure who these besties are, but I smile like they're old friends when I look back at this photo.

Floating market

I took this photo right after eating lunch. Me and my best friend, Arleny were climbing up a really steep bridge over to the waterfront market on the other side of the river. I wanted to wait on the bridge, just watch the people feed the BIGGEST fish in the water, but there were motorbikes that were honking to pass.
I ended up snatching this quick picture to capture this moment in my mind, with the tourist boats about to pass us underneath, framed by the market and the birds that were chirping along on the powerline at the top.
