The project pictured above occurred in May of 2017 and was the first time I volunteered for a Habitat for Humanities project. A group of volunteers and I helped improve the aesthetic features of the house after the contractors had completed their portion of the build. Since then, I have helped with two other projects and look forward to helping on others in the future.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is a program funded to help undergraduate students within the STEM fields. This program is intended as a leadership and academic enhancement program that helps students strive to achieve excellence. I was selected for this program and had to conduct a two month project and present my data at a conference held in El Paso.
Meals on Wheels is another organization within Tyler that I have volunteered at. During my time volunteering I performed light office work that included reorganizing and structuring client files, answering phones and looking over documents to ensure it had been filled out properly.
At the University of Texas at Tyler, the Pre-Health Organization emphasized opportunities available in health care and provided feedback and opportunities for students to become better candidates within the profession. I was a participating member for three years and was the treasurer for one of those years. I helped collaborate ideas with the organization for fundraisers and was in charge of all transactions.
TriBeta is an undergraduate honors society for biology students. This club provided opportunities for members to participate in scientific research as well as volunteer opportunities.
Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society within two year colleges that recognizes academic excellence and helps students develop leadership skills. Phi Theta Kappa provides stimulating opportunities for growth and volunteer work.
