The Leicestershire County Council decided, without due consultation, to request a special local status, related to the advancement of devolution issues. It asked the government to delay the local county elections, which are due in May 2025.
The Cabinet of the council should all resign as councillors. It is not a suitable committee to be in charge. Over a million people live in Leicestershire. They deserve better representation.

From the Constitution:
"Article 1 of the Constitution commits the County Council to provide clear leadership to the community in partnership with citizens, businesses and other organisations, to take decisions efficiently and effectively, to hold decisionmakers to public account, and to improve the delivery of services to the community."
I believe the County Council has acted recently without due regard to its own Constitution. I suspect the cause is political motivation and not de facto lack of competence. It does have much experience, available skills and broad awareness of organisational and political matters.

From the County Council's website: "The Overview and scrutiny function of the council scrutinises the council’s decisions and performance. It also assists in research and policy review and development, mainly through the work of Scrutiny Review Panels."
