One of the aspects of the BrickSort LEGO Sorting device that has remained a bit of a mystery is the electronics and how the motherboard of the project connects into the functionality of the device. With our Beta Prototyping, the BrickSort team endeavored to solidify our electronics approach with creating a wiring diagram using breadboards for each unique motor (Camera Bay, Inclined Conveyor, Vibration, Final Sort). These initial breadboard connections become the control panel for the holistic motor control for the sorting device as seen in the right most image. Each dial has the ability to individually control each specific motor
The BrickSort team was successful in creating a Beta prototype that will serve the function of elucidating the functional capacity of the sorting device. In the video embedded, one (1) entire run through of the processing of a singular LEGO brick piece is shown. Each sub-systems function and capability is detailed as well. This prototype has a 3-foot footprint with a height of 1-foot which is exactly the expected size assessment determined by the team.
