Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Announced, Featuring Open World Gotham

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight‘s trailer premiered at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, and it seems to be stuffed with easter eggs and movie references from the Batman universe. This comes over a decade after Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and 17 years after the original LEGO Batman.

The visual onomatopoeia of Adam West’s Batman

The trailer features some on-screen onomatopoeia that does resemble the comic Batman, but it also references Adam West’s Batman, which featured similar visuals. Notably, there is no direct reference to West’s Batman, otherwise.

The many references to the Dark Knight trilogy

The LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight trailer featured ample references to the Dark Knight trilogy. The trailer featured a shipping container scene, which resembles the famous introduction from Batman Begins. The Joker in the trailer also seems to be inspired by Heath Ledger’s take on the character. There are also direct quotes from the Dark Knight trilogy, like “Why so serious?” and “You think darkness is your ally?”
