Overview
Legit is committed to full transparency about how your data is handled. This policy outlines our data
practices in compliance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.
---
1. Data Collection
Legit accesses the content of the active webpage solely to perform its core function: news legitimacy
analysis.
- We do not collect personal identifying information, browsing history, or any background user data.
- To use the analysis features, you must manually provide your own Google Gemini API key. This key is
never transmitted to our servers.
---
2. Data Handling
When you click "Analyze This Page", the following occurs:
- The text content of the current webpage and your Gemini API key are sent directly from your browser
to Google's official Gemini API.
- This request is made entirely on your device — it is not routed through any developer-controlled
servers.
- We have no visibility into your requests or results.
---
3. Data Storage
Legit uses your browser's built-in local storage only.
- Your Gemini API key and language preference are stored locally on your device and never leave it
except for the direct API call described above.
- No analysis history, API keys, or personal data are stored on any external server or database.
- The developers have zero access to any data stored by the extension.
---
4. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or distribute any user data under any circumstances.
- The only external communication is the direct API request from your browser to Google's Gemini API,
made solely to provide the extension's core functionality.
- No data is shared with advertisers, trackers, or any third parties.
---
