I made a list of terms I think may be useful when discussing different cryptids
Spree Cryptids- Cryptids which are sighted multiple times but only in a short timespan, anywhere from a week to a few years. They're then rarely if ever sighted after that. Think Bighoot/mothman, the Enfield Horror, Mngwa, etc.
Artistic Cryptids- Cryptids which are only/primarily known from pieces of art with little to no actual information about the cryptid. Examples would be Bennu Bird, Set animal, Choiropithekos.
Wildman Theory- Humanity's tendency to have reports of large, hairy "wildmen" in cultures across the world similar to cryptids like bigfoot, the yeti, and the yeren. The theory is that humanity has some unconscious, primal desire to want for there to be wild, untamed people in the world.
Chupacabra Effect- Labeling a sighting of an unknown animal under the name of a local cryptids, even if that cryptid has little to nothing in common with that cryptid appearance wise
Theoretical Cryptid- A cryptid which hasn’t actually been sighted, but which has been proposed to explain some type of unexplained phenomenon. Like the bloop, USS Stein Creature or giant cookiecutter shark
Forgotten Cryptids- Cryptids which were lost to time. Former example would be the tailed slow loris which was uncovered by Karl Shuker after almost a century of being lost, and cited it as an example of what are likely many cryptids which have been forgotten in old notes
