Back in 2007, SUNMI debuted with K-Pop girl group: Wonder Girls. As a member, SUNMI developed her musical skills while she gained success and popularity up until 2010. Shockingly, an announcement of her break was released due to personal and academic reasons. A few years later, Sun-mi returned and continued her career as a soloist at JYP Entertainment. However not too long after, Wonder Girls disbanded. Fortunately, SUNMI signed under Abyss Entertainment where she could continue her solo career.
As a soloist, Sun-mi continued to cultivate her own unique style of music. As a result, more and more listeners began to tune into her singles and albums. Soon, she grew in popularity not only amongst a Korean audience but internationally. Consequently, SUNMI's music climbed musical charts such as Billboard Digital Single Sales. However, it didn't stop there, because Sun-mi's songs were also recognized by renowned experts and judges. In 2018, she was awarded "Best Female Artist," "Artist of the Year," and many other awards from multiple famous Asian award ceremonies. After that, through her hard work, SUNMI kept receiving these special awards up until the present. Specifically, awards like "Song of the Year" in 2020 and a Bonsang Award in 2024.
