Microtech OTF knives, also known as Out-of-the-Front knives, are members of the automatic knife family. These knives can be utilized in a variety of situations, both personal and professional. They're perfect because they can be operated by one person and save time. Hikers, anglers, military personnel, and other emergency service professionals such as EMTs and police officers all prefer OTF knives.
The blade is concealed within the handle, just like all other EDC knives (excluding fixed blade knives). Unlike manual-operated folding knives, Microtech OTF automatic knives are automated, and when engaged, the blade springs open from the front and locks into position. The internal mechanism to allow the blade to eject is normally activated by a button or slide switch.
A single-action or double-action mechanism can be used to operate Microtech OTF knives.
Single Action
Single-action Microtech OTF automatic knife can only execute one function. A release button on these knives ejects the blade. They are quick and vicious, as they are launched in a matter of seconds. To return the blade to its enclosure, however, a lever must be pulled back, requiring the use of both hands. When manually retracting the blade, greater caution is required to avoid harm. Single action Microtech OTF automatic knives have the advantage of being less expensive than their counterparts because they are less complex. Because there are fewer parts, they are more durable and resilient, allowing them to endure longer.
Double Action
The double-action Microtech automatic knife, as the name implies, allows you to eject the blade as well as pull it back in. Manual or two-handed operations are not required. They are controlled by a sliding switch that can be placed on either the main side or the top side of the handle. They're designed to be quick and easy to use with your thumb. If a single-handed operation is required, these are ideal. Because they have more mechanical parts, double-action OTFs are more expensive. Depending on usage, this could lead to faster wear and tear and more easy-to-break items. The deployment of blades may be slower than that of single-action OTFs.
Both types have advantages and disadvantages that could be important when determining which OTF knife to buy. When deciding which knife to buy, it's usually a good idea to identify your needs. Single-action OTFs are faster and more efficient, whereas double-action OTFs are more precise and practical for single-handed operation. Always check your local laws, as OTF knives are subject to tighter laws due to their automatic functioning.
