Budgeting - Best practices
Providing concise budgets in RPM will expedite the design time, minimize corrections upon proofing and insure good plate flow to the press. Budgets should include:
Page, publication and editor information are optional but can help when questions arise.

Slugs with positions on the page, inch count, photos, boxes, quotes, kickers, column sigs, mugshots, refers, QR codes, gamebugs and jumps
Jumps need to have page numbers listed.
Additional information relevant to page
Potential filler stories or art
Notes on what stories or art can hold or trim
If content will be late, included estimated time of arrival
For shared content modules: full or half page size, time zones
Jump pages
Minimize the number of jump pages.
Only jump from covers. Jumping from inside pages is strongly discouraged.
Designers work collaboratively and jump pages may be picked up by another designer who may not see the cover notes. If a page has a jump from the cover, always list it in the notes along with any elements such as photos, boxes, etc.
Early budgeting
Budgets can be added in RPM prior to marking pages content ready. This allows designers to start the design process if the newsroom is waiting for stories that will come later.
Promote stories in BLOX to the final workflow (ex: Design). Designers will not place stories that are in the Writing, Editing or Copy Desk workflows.
Communication with designers
Changes to any budget must be added as a new note in RPM. If a designer has already assigned the page, post a Teams message in your newsroom channel and tag the designer.
Cover previews are posted in your newsroom Teams channel prior to being sent to 1st proof. Respond within fifteen minutes with fixes or the page is ready to send to proof. This helps the design teams expedite the proofing process and eliminate major redesigns.
