LedgerSlip helps you scan receipts, organize expenses, review your receipt history, and export cleaner records for bookkeeping and year-end support. The app includes a main receipts screen, a summary view, receipt history, and a settings area for categories, fiscal year setup, exports, storage, and LedgerSlip Pro.
When you open LedgerSlip, the main screen shows:
your total expenses logged
a shortcut to View Receipt History
a Scan New Receipt button
an Export button in the top left
a Settings button in the top right
Tap Scan New Receipt.
Capture a clear image of the full receipt or invoice.
(Tips: Make sure the full receipt is in view, the receipt is in good lighting conditions and hold the camera as still as possible.)
Make sure the vendor name, date, and total are visible.
Avoid blurry, dark, cropped, or angled photos.
After capture, the receipt will be briefly displayed on screen.
Important: move the receipt out of view of the camera, then tap the blue checkmark in the top right to continue to the receipt summary screen.
Once you are on the summary screen, it may take a few seconds for the detected areas to appear.
LedgerSlip uses Apple’s document scanner and can scan multiple pages in one session. After scanning, the app brings each scanned image into the receipt entry flow one by one so you can review and save them individually.
Avoid using the manual shutter button at the bottom of the screen, flash, filters or shutter settings. The app will automatically detect the receipt and complete the scan.
After scanning, LedgerSlip attempts to detect:
vendor
date
total
category
If LedgerSlip Pro is unlocked, the app can also detect and work with receipt currency.
Vendor detection uses OCR and vendor-matching logic, and category selection can also be influenced by learned vendor-category patterns over time. If you have previously saved a category for a vendor, LedgerSlip can reuse that category later.
Always review the detected fields before saving. OCR and automated detection can make mistakes.
On the receipt details screen, review and update any fields that need correction:
Vendor
Date
Total
GST
Category
Description
Then tap Save Receipt. If you scanned more than one page, LedgerSlip automatically moves to the next scanned receipt after saving the current one.
If a receipt date falls outside your selected fiscal year, LedgerSlip warns you before saving. You can still save it, but it will be treated as excluded and will not be counted in current-period totals.
GST is only used when the receipt currency matches your selected home currency (Pro version).
If you are using LedgerSlip Pro and a receipt is in a foreign currency, GST entry is disabled for that receipt when the receipt currency is different from your home currency.
Because of this, it is important to review currency and totals carefully before saving.
From the main screen, tap the summary card to open the full Summary view. The Summary screen shows a donut chart and category totals.
You can tap a section of the donut chart to open a list of receipts for that category. This makes it easy to see which saved receipts make up each expense total.
This is useful when you want to answer questions like:
Which receipts make up my meals total?
What is included in office supplies this month?
Which entries are part of motor vehicle expenses?
Tap View Receipt History on the main screen to open your saved history. Each history row shows:
vendor
date
category
total
Tap any receipt to open its detail screen. From there, you can:
view the saved receipt image
review the details
change the category
save the category change
The updated category is written back to the saved receipt, and the app also learns that vendor-category mapping for future receipts.
To delete a receipt from history, swipe left on the receipt and tap Delete.
You can export from two places:
the share/export button on the main screen
Export Receipt Package (with Summary) in Settings
LedgerSlip builds an export package that includes:
a ZIP file
an Excel file named Receipts_Export.xlsx
receipt images referenced in your saved data
The Excel workbook includes:
Receipts
Summary
Excluded - Receipts that are outside of the calendar year (or fiscal year if set).
This makes it easier to review active receipts, category totals, and receipts saved outside the current fiscal period. If there are no receipts to export, the app shows an alert instead of opening an empty share sheet.
Each LedgerSlip scan is usually between 0.1-0.6 Mb. It is recommended that larger ZIP files to be exported through airdrop or other means.
Open Settings from the gear icon on the main screen.
Use Manage Categories to add your own categories or delete existing ones. Categories are used throughout the receipt entry flow and receipt history.
This creates the export package described above from inside Settings.
Use Fiscal year set-up to define the current reporting period used by the app.
This setting is usually more relevant for businesses and is often not applicable to sole proprietors or individuals, since many sole proprietors and individuals work on a calendar year basis.
LedgerSlip is set to the calendar year by default, but this should be checked each year to make sure the date range is still correct and updated as needed.
Receipts outside the selected date range are saved as excluded and are not included in current-period totals.
A good practice is to create a new storage folder for each new calendar year or fiscal year so your records stay cleaner and easier to manage.
This opens the built-in in-app instructions page.
LedgerSlip Pro is a one-time upgrade that unlocks:
currency detection
receipt currency selection
automatic historical conversion to your default currency
If Pro is unlocked, you can also choose a Default Currency. Receipts without a detected foreign currency use that default currency without conversion, while receipts in another currency can be converted using the receipt date.
The Pro screen also includes Restore Purchases.
Use Storage Folder Name to rename the folder used for receipts and export files.
Use Change Storage Location to move your receipt storage folder to another folder you choose through the system folder picker. If something goes wrong, LedgerSlip shows an error message.
Use Clear All Data only if you want to permanently erase saved receipts and related data. The app shows a destructive confirmation before doing this.

Place receipts on a flat surface.
Capture the full receipt in frame.
Make sure the vendor name is visible near the top.
Review the detected vendor, date, total, category, and currency before saving.
Use receipt history to correct categories and help LedgerSlip learn better vendor-category matches over time.
Review your fiscal year setup periodically, especially at the start of a new calendar or fiscal year.
Consider creating a new storage folder for each new year to keep records organized.
LedgerSlip stores receipts and export files in your chosen storage location.
GST should always be reviewed before saving.
GST entry is disabled for receipts in a foreign currency when the receipt currency is different from your home currency.
Currency features are only available with LedgerSlip Pro.
