Ledge Lighthouse Deterioration & Restoration

Since the keepers left in 1987, there has been no one living on Ledge Light to take care of it. The harsh environment of the sea, combining the relentless pounding of waves and salt spray has taken a toll on the lighthouse. Rain, snow, ice, wind and sun have all added to the deterioration of the building. This gallery of pictures shows the condition of the lighthouse and some of the work of the Ledge Light Foundation.

Helped by many volunteers, we have repaired almost all the rooms at Ledge Light. We have replaced 30 of the 42 windows which has helped enormously with leaks and deterioration problems. We are continuing restoration of the interior and exterior. Below are some photographs of our work groups. Why not join us?
