Ike & Mary Sharps

Isaac Sharps was an accomplished musician and artist who painted an idyllic scene on this door, originally from Dr. Knox’s home. He also worked as a janitor here at the same time that his sister Mary taught both public and Sunday School from 1905-1928. Just like teachers today fill in classroom gaps with supplies from home, Mary had a kitchen cabinet brought here from the Musconetcong River Road home that she shared with Ike to use for storing books.

The two were descended from famous rifle maker, Christian Sharps. Read more about him, Dr. Knox and other local legends in Remarkable Residents.
