Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is a learning approach that encourages students to take an active role in managing their own learning process. Instead of relying only on teachers or external guidance, learners become responsible for setting their own goals, planning how they will study, and choosing strategies that help them understand lessons more effectively. SRL empowers students to become more aware of how they learn and to take control of their academic progress.
This approach involves several important skills such as planning, monitoring, and reflecting on one’s learning. Learners begin by setting clear goals and preparing a plan for how they will achieve them. While studying, they monitor their progress by checking their understanding and adjusting their strategies when necessary. After completing their tasks, they reflect on their performance to identify what worked well and what they can improve in the future.
Self-Regulated Learning helps students develop independence, motivation, and confidence in their abilities. By practicing these skills, learners become better at managing their time, overcoming challenges, and staying focused on their goals. Over time, SRL not only improves academic performance but also builds valuable life skills that can be applied in future studies, careers, and everyday decision-making.
