My partner’s project is aimed at high school students and addresses cultural competence. I appreciated that the project provides the choice of presentation format. The project relates to my personal funds of identity, especially in my high school days. I believe that the project would have been beneficial to my peers in creating an accepting environment.
I believe that the plan is an age-appropriate and relevant topic for the project. High school is a crucial stage where students begin to explore themselves and develop their future identities. Cultural competence is important to this age group as it equips students with skills to navigate a diverse world. The lesson creates an understanding of different cultures and promotes inclusivity. It also increases self-awareness by encouraging students to engage in cultural competence daily. Her project prepares high school students for adult life. As they graduate, go to college, enter the workforce, or move away, they will encounter people from various cultural backgrounds. This makes cultural competence an important skill to have.
I would be intrigued to participate in a project like this. I particularly enjoyed the students would be putting themselves in another culture’s shoes. This step will increase empathy among students. The students can also develop a deeper appreciation and acceptance of other cultures and create an inclusive classroom environment.
