During this module you will learn about spatial data. We live in a data rich society where spatial data is ubiquitous thanks to cheap GPS technology embedded in just about every mobile device, making it easy to collect information with location co-ordinates attached.
Geographic information can be obtained from many different sources and in many different formats. However, working with spatial data is not always straightforward as it is multi-dimensional with many characteristics. We highlight some of these during these short lectures.
Spatial Data - An overview of what you will learn during these courses about spatial data.
Spatial Data 1 - What is it? Where does it come from?
Spatial Data 2 - Deconstructing geospatial information. Relating the realworld with features on a map.
Spatial Data 3 - Characteristics of geographic information such as attributes, file types, projections and making data shareable with metadata.
Spatial Data 4 - Geographic boundary levels and units and making data mapable. What geographic information is needed to make data mapable?
Spatial Data 5 - Managing and organising spatial data.
