The Department of Commerce was started as an undergraduate department in the academic year 1983-84 with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. During the academic year 1984-85, evening college was introduced with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. In the year 1998-99 evening college was brought to Day College as another Batch (Batch II). Later in the year 2007-2008, II Shift was started. At present the sanctioned strength for one batch is 70 students. The department functions with 5 regular staff members all with Doctoral degree and 8 Guest Lecturers, 3 Guest Lecturers with Doctoral degree and 5 Guest lecturers with M.Phil degree. The pass percentage of our students is on an average 96%. The department was up graded as a PG department during the academic year 2013-14 with the sanctioned strength of 20 students. With a total Strength of 709 Students, the department is marching forward with aims and aspirations to compete with the current scenario.

B.Com - Programme Specific Outcome
After completing three years of Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (B.Com), the students will be able to:
Gain a thorough knowledge in the fundamentals of Commerce, Business and Finance through focused curriculum, offering a number of specializations, which would equip students to face modern-day challenges in commerce and business.
Understand and demonstrate the role of various accounting in business and society and also evaluate direct and indirect taxes
Perceive issues with national interest in mind, develop moral and ethical values and contribute to the society as a responsible citizen.
Acquire entrepreneurial skills and knowledge which will enable them to become entrepreneurs. Gain confidence to take up professional courses like M.Com, M.B.A, CA, CS, ICWA etc.,
M.Com Programme Specific Outcome
After completing two years of Master’s degree in Commerce (M.Com), students will be able to:
Acquire a higher level of knowledge on contemporary trends in Commerce, Business and Finance.
Gain proficiency in statistical methods and application of statistical tools for modelling and analysis of business data and also undertake independent research in the chosen field.
Attain conceptual and digital knowledge and confidence to serve in various sectors such as Banking, Insurance, Finance, Human Resources and Marketing.
Obtain knowledge and skills required in the present competitive corporate world.
Develop confidence to pursue professional courses which will enable students to become Tax Consultants, Auditors, Financial Analysts, Marketing and Human Resource professionals.
