Read Chapters 6-10
Focus for the week is still characterization with a focus on how characters interact with one another to tell us about community.
Read Chapters 17-22
The introduction of the Tom Robinson trial through Atticus's Closing statements. Students begin to build a case for how we see Harper Lee's opinions on Social Injustice through Atticus.
Read to the end of the novel
Students complete the Atticus essay connecting the dots between characterization, conflict and theme.
Enrichment projects provide opportunities for connecting to the content through creation of visual images and journaling.
