College Libraries Ontario Creates Provincial Online Learning Hub

April 22, 2020

As postsecondary students across the province shift to online learning models, College Libraries Ontario (CLO) have created a resource to assist with this transition.

Students now have access to new online resources through the newest hub of the Learning Portal that will help them navigate technology, stay motivated and study smart amid virtual learning. Known as Online Learning, this new hub was developed through the leadership of Laurel Schollen, Seneca’s Vice-President Academic, and Kathryn McMillan, Seneca’s Manager, Learning Centres, in partnership with Algonquin College’s Libraries and Learning Centres, College Libraries Ontario and the entire Learning Portal team.

The hub features useful tips, how-to videos and learning strategies so that students can quickly find the resources they need to improve their learning aptitude for online learning. It also houses links to specific resources unique to each college. The Learning Portal team has also developed an inventory of resources for faculty, including several LMS cartridges/packages specifically for learning online.

Provincially, the Learning Portal is the flagship project of College Libraries Ontario (CLO), supported by the Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS), and provides online, 24-7 equitable access to library and learning centre support and resources for Ontario’s online college students — in both French and English. It also provides faculty support for AODA, Indigenous inclusion and development, copyright and use of OERs in the classroom. The portal was created using content donated by several colleges and learning centres.

OER Toolkit Shell Now Available in Libguides Community

Jan 21, 2019

Recently we received multiple requests for the source files for the OER Toolkit.

Anabella was able to make a copy of the toolkit available through the Libguides Community which means you can copy the guide onto your platform by searching for the shell in the Libguides community.

Anabella worked very hard to make an open version of the toolkit as it required searching for open versions of all of the icons (which were previously built with stock photos).

Thank you to Anabella for all her work to make this available!
