Our experiment in global immersion
Why?!
Years ago, before we'd even started dating, we shared an aspiration to travel with our respective families around the world. Little did we know that we were talking about the same family and same adventure!
We’ve always been on the lookout for a window of possibility and in 2022, the stars aligned.
There were a hundred ways we could have talked ourselves out of it — it takes a leap of faith to let go of what’s familiar. Ultimately, we let our wiser voices win.
We packed the essentials (including a plush cheetah, Rubik’s cubes, and inflatable car seats) into our carry-ons, and stashed the rest in our attic. Then, we pulled our boys Rio (8) and Luca (6) out of school to reorient around a different type of education.
In November, we set off in search of the learning that matters most: Who are we when we leave our comfort zones, routines and identities behind? Where are the bright spots in a broken and beautiful world? And what roles can we play at the intersection?
Our aim is to immerse ourselves fully in different contexts and cultures, staying longer and going deeper than typical travel. In each location we're connecting with generous friends as hosts & guides, and enrolling the boys in local schools & camps.
We're following our curiosities, cultivating our courage, and getting inspired and humbled by what we encounter.
Mostly, we're letting the experience unfold while sticking to our family travel rules:
1. Keep track of your stuff
2. Help your family
3. Roll with the program
4. Enjoy it all — we bring our own weather!
Here’s to letting go of one monkey bar & swinging for the next….
