Getting Started with RStudio and Codealong (Wright, H. Lee, 20 minutes): Emphasizing RStudio environment and pane layout, basics of customizing your RStudio environment, downloading files for the course, getting help and troubleshooting, and using R Markdown to write and save commands with basic programming syntax.
Task Activity and Badge Work (Wright, H. Lee, 20 minutes): Guided setup of a Workflow outline.
First Blended Learning Lab (9:15 AM - 10:15 AM)
Learning Analytics Foundations presentation (Ayieko, Williamson, 20 minutes): Through R and the Learning Analytics workflow, Scholars delve into LA as a powerful approach to STEM education research and systematic interrogation in societal decision-making through the Learning Analytics Workflow.
Guided Walkthrough (Pham, S. Lee, 20 minutes): Scholars learn how to download and access data, load packages (or libraries), and use basic wrangling tidyverse syntax.
Task Activity and Badge Work (Pham, S. Lee, 20 minutes): Participants will apply what they learned to wrangle a new data set to use during the Explore phase of the session.
Second Blended Learning Lab (10:30 AM - 11:30 AM)
Learning Analytics Data Visualization and Final Products (Manly, Wright, 20 minutes): Through R and the Learning Analytics workflow, Scholars
Guided Walkthrough (Shi, Cloude, 20 minutes): Participants will learn R syntax for plotting learner data from the wrangled set of data with online science classes data using ggplot, an R package for data viz, and understand basic plots.
Task Activity and Badge Work (Shi, Cloude, 20 minutes): Participants will apply what they learned to develop a new data visualization from a guided research question.
