There are many great guitarists and here are just a few;
Guthrie Govan
This guy may not be as famous as Jimi Hendrix but he deserves to be. His playing is truly amazing and there doesn't appear to be any style that he cannot play. He is one of the newer generation of guitarists who can be found on YouTube. Check out an example of his playing on the track 'Fives' for yourself.
Jimmy Page
The 'ultimate guitar hero', who has inspired generations of guitarists over many decades. Many of whom are as a famous themselves. From beautiful acoustic pieces to the hardest of rock riffs that have become legendary. There are countless Led Zeppelin classics but check out the live version of 'Dazed & Confused' from 'The Song Remains The Same' for rock playing at it's best.
Eddie Van Halen
This guy developed a whole new way of playing after watching Jimmy Page. Eddie took the 'Tapping' style to a completely different level on the track 'Eruption' whilst incorporating it into many of Van Halens tracks. In addition to their impressive debut album 'Van Halen', the album '1984' is a rock guitar showpiece on almost every track. Try YouTube 'Eruption solo live without a net' for 11 minutes of guitar trickery 'overload'.
Allan Holdsworth
The 'reluctant guitar hero' who shyed away from such terms. As someone who never really wanted to play the guitar but wasn't able to afford a saxophone to play like his jazz hero, John Coltrane. Allan's style was distinct as well as being breathtaking. He couldn't describe his Jazz/Rock music and said that when he looked down at the fretboard that he saw an Abacus. What we hear is notes that move swiftly and elegantly and are uniquely his. Just watch him play and wonder - RIP Allan.
