3D Compressible Decaying Turbulence (CompDecay-3D) Dilated ResNet v. Coarsened Athena Comparison
State variables (density, X-, Y- and Z-velocity, and pressure) for four trajectory rollouts from simulators. Simulators include the Ground Truth physics-based simulator (Athena++ at resolution of 128^3), coarsened Athena++ at resolutions of 64^3 and 32^3, and Dil-ResNet model rollouts at a resolution of 32^3 with and without noise. Model timestep Δt=32x10^-3.
The learned simulator outperforms the comparable resolution Athena++32 in terms of RMSE, and unlike both Athena++32, and Athena++64 does not lose high frequency components due to numerical viscosity
