I am Jibrea Perryman. My passion for education began in 2003 when I began my undergraduate degree at IUPUI. While at IUPUI, I studied Elementary Education. My first teaching experience was in IPS. There I learned the importance of collaboration with team members, parents, and families. Since 2009, I’ve had the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop as a classroom teacher. My experience as a classroom teacher has been in sixth and third grade.
While teaching third grade my love for the primary grades began to develop. I really wanted to learn more about the foundation years of schooling. I believe early childhood development can give educators insight into how students learn and develop. Additionally, knowledge attained through early childhood development can provide a solid foundation for their future as students move into more rigorous standards. In 2017, I earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education. My passion for education and growth didn’t stop there. In 2019, I began IUPUI’s Urban Principalship Program to earn my Administration Licensure. My experience as a teacher has warranted me many wonderful opportunities to deepen my knowledge and fine-tune my craft.
Over the last twelve years, education has evolved and will continue to as it is fluid. As an educator, what has remained consistent with me is the understanding of the importance of relationships with students and families. I believe that all students should be given the opportunity for the best education, by the best educators. Education has the ability to change the trajectory of one’s future. I stand firm on the fact that curriculum and instruction should be based on the values and experiences of the students who consume the materials. As educators, it is our duty and responsibility to equip students with the basic tools and skills for a successful future.
