LEARN TO LEAD

Learn to Lead at Elevate is a short course, for intermediate climbers, with 4 stages. 2 are self paced, and 2 are in-person with a coach at Elevate climbing gym.

In-person sessions run on the 1st and 2nd Wednesday of each month.

Please note that you will need a climbing partner, approved harness, rope and belay device to take this course

Learning Outcomes

Setup:

Closed system check
Partner communication
Rope/Belaying position

Climbing:

Clipping position & technique
Back clip & Z-clip
Leg-Draw-Rope relationship

Belaying:

Correct positioning (belayer + rope)
Spotting 1st draw
Taking slack + hand on brake end
Take climber (supporting the leader)
Giving slack when clipping,

(Walk in + give slack + take excess slack)

Stage 3 - Self paced.

Practice as much as possible!

Practice these skills:

Set up and partner checks
Giving slack smoothly
Taking slack smoothly
Focus on climber rather than the rope and belay device

Anticipation of climber movements is key!

Stage 4 - In person session 2
