Leandro Bentancur PhD student in Maths Universidad de la República
Hi there!
I'm deeply interested in the connection between real algebraic geometry and optimization theory, where abstract geometric concepts and algebraic structures meet practical applications. In 2024, I completed my Master's degree in Mathematics at the University of the Republic (Uruguay) under the guidance of Alvaro Rittatore. My thesis focused on algebraic geometry and invariant theory, particularly the representation theory of affine extensions of abelian varieties. Currently, I'm working on my PhD, supervised by Mauricio Velasco, exploring some problems related to polynomial optimization in homogeneous varieties.
Since 2017, I've been teaching at the University of the Republic, aiming to share my knowledge and inspire curiosity about mathematics. Alongside my research and teaching, I'm committed to making science more accessible and promoting mathematical literacy. This motivation led me to pursue a specialization in science and technology communication, where I work to share the relevance and beauty of mathematics with diverse audiences.
Outside of academia, I enjoy reading, biking, and cheering for Nacional, my favorite football team.
