The posts about png, gif, wmf are all correct. gif, png, wmf extensions support transparency. You would need a graphics software like photoeditor, paint shop or photoshop to set the background as transparent and then save as a png/wmf file. wmf is hard to save since its a microsoft extension and not supported by all programs. So between gif and png, I would go with png since the quality is much better than gif.

Your mask image looks fine, but I think you want to swap 'white' and 'black', so you have a white rounded rectangle exactly the shape you want your final image to be, on a black background. You will probably also need to use the 'L' mode (greyscale) one.

@Mary Helen It's troubling that a transparent background is still being printed as white. If both "the paper" white and the logo white were being omitted when you set a transparent background, I had a couple of suggestions. But it appears that "the paper" white is being printed always, yes?

You can have clipping path while exporting JPG, it's how I usually do it to get the path in other apps: only the background and a clipping path on it, nothing more, and the path should have a name to be reconized in some apps.

I did check the more section and checked print without background - I will go you your "tutorial" and see how you did it - right now I have to get the shirts out and am doing the old fashioned way: Photoshop while I still have access!

I've tried a lot of different things already: inversed it, added a layer mask, trimmed the transparent pixels and deleted the background. It still prints with a gray background to my image. What can I do?

IMHO, not a good idea for a company logo to xref an image file, the file has to go everywhere with the drawing. You need to use a vector file so it can be part of the drawing and transparent background.

Had the problem once that marketing saw one of our plans and contacted us and said we were not using the correct corporate colour in part of the logo, it was vector and light blue solid hatch, we asked what we should use they could not provide a rgb etc so we could correct it. Glad it went away.
