On which a more expected sort of Hudson Bay weather returns.
Woke to find myself in a heavy fog, wet and cold with only a couple hundred meters visibility. Part of me feels like it’s a disguised blessing — even if I am running behind, my body probably needs a break.
My plan had been to wake up before dawn and get going, but the fog forecast convinced me to sleep later, which ended up being the right move. I’d never find my way, especially considering I’d be shuttling and could easily get separated from my gear in this whiteout. This fog is not supposed to clear out till tomorrow ... I’ll take a rest day in the meantime.
1:30PM
I wake up from a 3.5 hour nap and may take another. My body clearly needed this break regardless.
By mid-afternoon the fog begins lifting and I take a short stroll. I can see the route for tomorrow, and though I’m tired my mind is psyched up. I’ll make it an early night and get started early tomorrow. The goal is to get back on track and finish the portage to the first pond.
