Write an essay (3000+ words) about an ethical problem that you could potentially face as someone in a position of authority.

• Think of your future. What do you want to do? What kind of a person will you be? 

• At some point, you will be in a position of authority. This means that you will almost certainly confront ethical questions in your chosen profession. For example: 

  1. • Can contracts made in conditions of extreme inequality be fair?

     • Should you defend criminals who you know are guilty? 

     • Should you pay taxes or try to find tax loopholes to avoid it? 

     • Should you boycott businesses that make goods in sweatshops? 

     • Should you vote? 

     • Should people be encouraged to break the law more often? 

• You may also wonder whether you are devoting your life to a worthwhile cause or whether you can use whatever power you have differently. For example, you may ask: 

  1. • How much of your income should you give to charity?

     • Should you focus on your career or having a family?

     • Do you have a duty to financially support your family?

     • Should you choose a career that directly helps people or should you earn to give? Does it matter if you have a socially beneficial career?

     • Should you make material sacrifices to live in a sustainable way? 

     • Should you try to convert people to your religion?
