According to the NIDCD, nearly 1 in 12 U.S. children aged 3-17 have had a disorder related to voice, speech, language, or swallowing in the past 12 months. An estimated 17.9 million U.S. adults aged 18 or older, or 7.6%, report having had a problem with their voice every year. Approximately 9.4 million (4.0%) adults report having a problem using their voice that lasted one week or longer during the last 12 months. Spasmodic dysphonia, a voice disorder caused by involuntary movements of one or more muscles of the larynx (voice box), can affect anyone.
According to the WHO, globally the number of people of all ages visually impaired is estimated to be 285 million, of whom 39 million are blind. The major causes of visual impairment are uncorrected refractive errors (43%) and cataract (33%); the first cause of blindness is cataract (51%). Visual impairment in 2010 is a major global health issue: the preventable causes are as high as 80% of the total global burden.
In addition to this, Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can cause significant social, communication, and behavioural challenges. Children with ASD may have difficulty developing language skills and understanding what others say to them.
Due to fewer priorities given by educational providers to issues that may support the disabled, anyone with a learning disability finds it hard to sustain a normal life and thrive in educational environments or practices. This is more common in developing countries, in areas such as curriculums, teaching and learning materials, infrastructure, environmental issues, and special programs such as sports and games.
Helping them lead a normal life can ultimately be our responsibility, and Leada helps with just that. It provides you a platform with learning tools that would help you converse with people having disabilities, as well as help the disabled carry normal conversations.
