The International Women's Day has been celebrated at "D'Alessandro-Vocino" School, in San Nicandro Garganico, with the event "MARZO è DONNA" (March is woman). The conference has been attended by the teacher Mrs Costanza Ciavarrella, representative of the Centre Mobbing and Stolking of Foggia and Mrs Maria Consiglia Di Lella, President of the Association "Oro tra le mani" (Gold in your hands).
The headteacher Mr Rocco D'Avolio has introduced the theme of the conference: "Woman ... yesterday and today". Mrs Costanza Ciavarrella has stressed that the role of the woman has changed during the centuries, step by step she has gained important positions in the society even if, unfortunately, there are still countries where woman is considered to be inferior to man and she is ill-treated.
Mrs Maria Consiglia Di Lella has introduced the Association "Oro tra le mani", which has organized several events in order to remember the women who have been victims of violence. She has invited the audience to hang a white cloth to the window, to say "NO" to violence.
In the hall there was a tree where students have put a pair of red shoes and classic dance shoes, to emphasize that unfortunately violence occurs even to young girls.
In the audience there were teachers, students and parents. At the end of the conference, some students have read some beautiful poems in honor of the woman.
"The woman came out of the man's rib, not from the feet to be trampled, not from the head to be superior but from the side, to be the same, under the arm to be protected, next to the heart to be loved". (WIlliam Shakespeare)
After the conference there has been a snack with cakes made by parents.
