Information on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
This is my website on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many people know the Church as "the Mormon Church" and its members as "Mormons," but those are unofficial nicknames. Others know the Church as "the LDS Church," but this, too, is an unofficial nickname.
The LDS Church proclaims that it is the true church of Jesus Christ restored to the Earth. In 1820, a young man named Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ in a grove of trees in Palmyra, New York, in response to a prayer. In this wonderful event, known as the First Vision, Joseph was told that the true church was not on the Earth but that it would be restored through him at a later time. The Lord directed Joseph to restore the true church in 1830. The Savior told Joseph that the name of the church should be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church continues to be led by a prophet and 12 apostles, as was the ancient church.
As part of the restoration of His church, Jesus Christ used Joseph Smith to bring forth more scripture to mankind. In 1829, Joseph began translating the ancient plates of the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God, and the book was published in 1830. The Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with ancient peoples in northern Central America and southern Mexico. Two other books of scripture were brought forth a few years later: The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price.
God has promised that through study and sincere prayer, anyone can know for a certainty, by the power of the Holy Ghost, that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the church he established is the Savior's restored church.
