Lédger® Live Extension — Web3 Connectivity Guide
The Lédger® Live Extension was designed to connect Ledger hardware devices with Web3 applications, decentralized applications, and NFT marketplaces. It provided users with a convenient way to interact with supported Web3 services while keeping transaction approval on their Ledger device.
Today, Ledger has changed its product direction. The standalone Ledger Extension is no longer available for download, and Ledger says it does not plan to provide further updates to the extension. Several of its security and Web3 features are being incorporated into other parts of the Ledger ecosystem.
The extension was developed with several useful Web3 capabilities:
Web3 connectivity: Connect a Ledger signer with supported decentralized applications.
Transaction visibility: Wallet Preview helped users understand assets entering or leaving an account before approval.
Security checks: Web3 Checks could identify potential concerns when interacting with suspicious applications.
NFT access: Users could connect with supported NFT marketplaces.
Hardware confirmation: Transactions could be reviewed and approved using the connected Ledger device.
If Ledger Extension is already installed on your device, you may continue using it. However, Ledger states that the standalone application is no longer available for new downloads.
Ledger Wallet™ is the current name for the application formerly known as Ledger Live. It provides desktop and mobile access for managing crypto assets with a Ledger signer.
Ledger is moving toward direct dApp access through Ledger Wallet. Supported dApps can connect without requiring a separate browser extension, allowing transactions to be sent directly to the Ledger signer for confirmation.
Before approving any crypto transaction:
Review the transaction details.
Confirm the recipient or contract information.
Check the amount and network.
Verify the information displayed on your Ledger device.
Approve only when everything matches your intention.
Download Ledger software only from official Ledger sources.
Never install unofficial Ledger browser extensions.
Never provide your Secret Recovery Phrase to websites or support agents.
Do not approve transactions you do not understand.
Keep your Ledger device and software updated through official channels.
Be cautious of websites advertising discontinued Ledger Extension downloads.
The Lédger® Live Extension remains relevant when researching Ledger's earlier Web3 tools, but it should not be confused with a currently downloadable product. Ledger is transitioning Web3 functionality into Ledger Wallet™ and direct dApp integrations, reducing the need for a separate browser extension.
