A Lédger® Live Backup refers to protecting the information needed to restore access to a compatible Ledger wallet. The most important backup is your Secret Recovery Phrase, which Ledger describes as the backup of the private keys associated with your wallet. It should be recorded accurately and stored securely offline.
Your recovery phrase should never be typed into Ledger Live, a website, email, chat, or online form. Anyone who obtains the phrase may be able to restore the wallet and access its assets. Ledger recommends keeping the phrase offline and protected from loss, theft, and physical damage.
Ledger also offers Ledger Recover, an optional service that provides an encrypted backup for eligible users. The service uses identity verification and securely encrypted fragments rather than storing the readable recovery phrase.
For additional physical protection, Ledger provides recovery-storage options, including durable metal storage. Compatible touchscreen devices may also support Ledger Recovery Key, which provides another offline backup option.
