Lédger® Live Not Opening? Troubleshooting Guide 

Experiencing issues with Ledger Live (now known as Ledger Wallet) not opening can be frustrating, especially when you need to manage your crypto assets . Most problems, however, have straightforward solutions.

🔍 Check Your System Compatibility First

The most common reason Ledger Live fails to open is operating system incompatibility.

• Windows 7 Users: The current version of Ledger Live requires Windows 10 (64-bit) or later. If you attempt to install it on Windows 7, you may encounter an error like: "The procedure entry point discard virtual memory could not be located in the dynamic link library kernel32.dll." . The solution is to upgrade your OS to a supported version.

• ARM-Based PCs (e.g., Surface Pro X): Windows 11 can emulate x64 apps, but if an app tries to install a driver (as Ledger Live might), it will fail because drivers cannot be emulated on ARM CPUs . Check compatibility before installing.

If you were running an older version successfully on an unsupported OS, you might need to re-install that older version as a temporary workaround .

If the app crashes immediately after opening, the installation might be corrupted or incomplete.

• Manual Update is Required: If your desktop app is on a very old version, the in-app auto-update feature can appear stuck because of a change in update signatures. You'll need to manually download the latest installer from the official site to overwrite your current version .

• Run as Administrator: On Windows, right-click the Ledger Live installer and select "Run as administrator". This can bypass permission blocks from your operating system .

• System Permissions: On a restricted or company-managed account, you might need to manually create data folders or grant full control permissions to the user for the Ledger Live directory .

• Driver Issues: If the app opens but fails to connect to your device (error: "Device not found"), try these steps :

  1. Try a different USB cable and a different USB port (preferably on the computer's motherboard, not a hub).

  2. Check the Device Manager to see if the driver is installed correctly.

  3. Manually update the driver by pointing it to the driver folder in the Ledger Live installation directory .
