For Lédger® Live users—now known as Ledger Wallet™—the concept of "recovery login" can refer to several distinct situations. Understanding the correct approach is essential, as the application itself does not use a traditional cloud-based username and password login system, with one key exception.
Ledger Wallet is fundamentally a local application. This means your accounts, settings, and transaction history are stored directly on your computer or smartphone, not on Ledger's centralized servers. As a result, a "login" is typically just accessing the app on your device. If you install the app on a new computer or it is reset, you will need to re-add your accounts; however, your funds remain secure on the blockchain and are managed by the private keys on your Ledger device .
The primary ways to restore access to your portfolio involve recovering the private keys (your Secret Recovery Phrase) into the application. Both methods achieve the same result: importing your existing accounts into Ledger Wallet for management.
If you have your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase, you can restore your accounts on a new or reset Ledger device.
Step 1: Launch Ledger Wallet and begin the setup process.
Step 2: On the welcome screen, scroll down and select "Restore your recovery phrase on a new device" .
Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your 24-word phrase directly on the Ledger device. This reinstates the private keys that control your crypto.
Step 4: Once restored, open Ledger Wallet and go to the Accounts tab. Use the + Add account button to add your restored accounts back to the app's interface. The application will scan the blockchain for accounts associated with your restored phrase .
For subscribers to the optional Ledger Recover service, there is a dedicated recovery path.
Step 1: When setting up a new device or in Ledger Wallet, select "Restore using Ledger Recover" .
Step 2: You will be prompted to log in with the email address and password you created for your Ledger Recover subscription . This login is specific to the Ledger Recover service, not the main Ledger Wallet application itself.
Step 3: After logging in, you will need to verify your identity, which involves submitting a photo of your ID and a facial video . Once verified, the service will securely restore your Secret Recovery Phrase to your device.
If you encounter a login screen asking for an email and password when opening Ledger Wallet, this is not for a standard application login. This screen is specifically for Ledger Recover subscribers. If you have not signed up for this optional paid service, you can simply close the window and proceed with the standard setup or local usage of the application .
For Passphrase Users: If you secured your accounts with an advanced "Passphrase" (often called the 25th word), restoring only the standard 24-word phrase will not show these accounts. You must also set up your passphrase on the Ledger device again to access those specific accounts .
