We have decided to create a blog about leadership in a digital environment through the lens of tech companies. The reason why we chose this topic is because most of our team members have technological background and interest. We thought it would be a great idea to explore the leadership aspect in both the physical and digital environments.We believe that this topic is underexplored, and needs to be examined further. Many big technology companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and HP outsource some aspects of their IT sector in many other countries in order to get the best possible values. As a result, these companies often have to work internationally and in virtual environment in order to maintain communication with their other branches in different countries. In our blog, we intend to examine how these virtual leaders deal with their team members who live in same or different time zones and require asynchronous communication.
My name is Rifath Maria. I am currently studying at Rutgers University majoring in ITI and minoring in DCIM. In the IT field there are times when people are required to work remotely online. As someone who hopes to work in the IT world in future, it was a great experience to research different companies and understand different stances of leadership in both physical and virtual environment.

For someone interested in the IT world, I was intrigued by different aspects of leadership that takes place in the virtual and physical world. Both are similar yet different in ways and this research was a great way to truly define the leadership knowledge and skills required to succeed.

My professional experiences range from development to research. I am familiar with agile methodology, and understand the complexities that come with development. My name is Apoorva Sahasrabudhe and I’m currently a junior at Rutgers University majoring in ITI and minoring in DCIM. I have always been fascinated by how technology is rapidly changing our world. Researching how it affects leadership in the digital environment was fascinating and I learned a lot positive ways leaders can implement this new dynamic into increasing productivity and efficiency. I plan on working in IT and learning about how leadership works online helped me gain a better understanding of the process which I plan on using someday in the future.
