The Lions Club of Honolulu is proud to honor our 100th Charter Anniversary. On October 11, 1926, the Lions Club of Honolulu was chartered as the first integrated Lions Club. This remarkable achievement was largely due to the efforts of the local Pan Pacific Club of Honolulu and Colbert Kurokawa. Mr. Kurokawa lobbied tirelessly to remove the "whites only" membership clause from the Lions International constitution. In 1926 the constitution was amended to remove the clause. This allowed the chartering of non-white clubs. Thus Pan Pacific Club became the first multi-racial club, chartered as the Lions Club of Honolulu. Today spurred by this action, Lions Club International has grown to be the largest service club organization in the world, 50,000 Clubs worldwide. In addition, the Honolulu club has acted as the "Mother Club of Hawaii," helping to expand Lionism across the islands. Today there are 62 active Lions Clubs serving Hawaii.
To celebrate what was started in Hawaii and the 100 years of service since, a gala event will be held October 10, 2026 at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki.
