John drew and wrote comics, novels, magazines, and TV ads. His drawing predated grade school, soon adding historical detail, first inspired by Harvey Kurtzman's 'Cowboy' feature in MAD magazine and later by his father's service in Vietnam. After receiving a Commercial Art degree and an Air Force commission from Northern Arizona University, John drew TV storyboards and magazine ads while free-lancing historical graphic novels. His mainstream comics include House of Mystery, Lost in Space, and Sgt. Rock. His historical works include westerns Owlhoots, Trains Not Taken, Red Sunset and war tales, Medal of Honor and Kurtzman's Two-Fisted Tales. His latest project on the Vietnam War is dedicated to his father.
